Through the years of working with different tint manufacturers at Shammy’s Auto Detailing shop in Pickering, Ontario we’ve been able to pinpoint what characteristics make for a great tint film. There are plenty of reasons why you should tint your windows, but we’re going to make the decision a little easier for you by sharing our list of the six REAL reasons to get your car windows tinted:
1. ADD A TOUCH OF LUXURY TO ANY CAR
One of the greatest benefits of tinting your car windows is the added privacy it provides for your vehicle. While it’s not recommended to leave high value items in your car, sometimes it’s inevitable. With tinted windows, you can feel more comfortable knowing that your phone, shopping bags, purses, or other items are not in view for others to see.
2. STAYING PRIVATE
At Shammy’s Auto, we proudly use SunTek window film. Manufactured in the US, SunTek is one of the top window tinting films on the market, so you know you’re getting the highest quality materials for your car.
You can choose between SunTek’s ceramic, carbon, or standard charcoal tints.
3. PROTECT YOUR CAR'S INTERIOR
Window tinting helps block out the sun’s harmful UV rays, which in turn can preserve the interior of your car. Dashboards, as well as leather and cloth seats, can fade and crack after years of sitting in the hot sun. This not only shows the age of your car, but can also hurt its resale value. Window tints block the majority of UV rays that cause damage and discolouration, and can help keep your car interior looking brand new for longer.
4. SKIN PROTECTION
You wear sunblock when you expect to be out for long periods of time in the summer, but not many people think to put it on when they’re driving or riding in a car. While a windshield provides adequate sun protection, the majority of side and rear windows only absorb approximately 65% of UV rays. According to a 2007 research study, it was found that those who drove more often had a higher chance of getting skin cancer on their left side (the part closest to the driver side window). Professional window tints can block up to 99% of UV rays, keeping your skin healthy and safe.
5. KEEP YOUR CAR COOL
The summer heat can be brutal. According to PETA, on a 25-degree day, the temperature inside a parked car can reach up to between 37 and 48 degrees in just a matter of minutes. These temperatures can create hazardous conditions, causing seats and metal accessories inside the car to become so hot they can cause injury. With tinted windows, however, your car can stay up to 60% cooler during those hot summer months. This means less time waiting for your car to cool down and the air conditioning to kick in, as well as a safer environment for your children, pets, and even yourself.
6. MORE DURABLE CAR WINDOWS
While window tinting offers a certain aesthetic value, it also provides safety benefits. Many tint manufacturers produce scratch-resistant film, which can help protect your windshield from debris and small rocks. The film adhesive also minimizes shattering in case of an accident, helping to protect the driver and rest of the vehicle from damage from shards of glass.
